Or if you wanted you could put it so it is in the notification area;
Updated Skype Built-In Method;
1. In Skype, go to Tools-Options.
2. Then, click on Advanced tab to go to Advanced settings. 3. Uncheck and untick the Keep Skype in the taskbar while I’m signed in option. Hide and Remove Skype from Taskbar 4. Click Save button, and the Skype button or icon will be removed from Taskbar on minimize Now you won’t see the option if the Skype is in compatibility mode.
Compatibility Mode Method;
1. Exit or quit from Skype program.
2. Right click on Skype icon on Desktop or Skype shortcut in Start Menu, and select Properties. Skype Properties 3. Go to Compatibility tab. 4. Under “Compatibility Mode’ section, check and tick the checkbox for Run this program in compatibility mode for: option. 5. In the below drop-down box, select Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) 6. Click OK. 7. Start the Skype program, and now it should minimize to system tray
Please note you can use this same methos for windows live/MSN messenger too. Active file recovery 18.0.8 key.
No no. The thong is that when I click on minimize, it minimizes, but when I click on close, then also it minimizes...
Put it into a toolbar. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/72092-toolbars-how-use-windows-7-vista.html
Ok. Solved finally. See here how it is:
(1) Go to Tools-Options (2) Choose Advanced. (3) Uncheck 'Keep Skype in the taskbar while I am signed in'. (4) Done !! Now, close function will minimize the Skype to Taskbar. Thank you all for your time. Topic Closed

Minimize To Tray Thunderbird
Skype was working perfect and then all of a sudden the chat box was full screen sized. Once you click on the Skype icon from the side bar it takes you straight to the full sized chat windows (By full sized I mean the side bar, top bar, and the programs close buttons disappear)I have uninstalled Skype and installed again but the issue is still occurring.
I looked about but couldn't find an answer, thanks for any help!

I had the same problem and couldn't find an answer, but have found a solutionunder the Skype Options menu under Chatdeselectuse default view.
Apparently the default view is a full screen window with a locked window size.

The solution is just to press the F11 key in Ubuntu.
The F11 key toggles full screen. No other keys are needed.

If you are looking for keyboard shortcuts, you can maximize windows by Super+̣↑ and minimize by Ctrl+Super+̣↓.
Also, F11 toggles the full screen mode.

If you have this problem with the 'main window' of skype, go to:
1) Options -> General -> check 'Start Skype minimized in the system tray'2) Restart Skype

Since two or three updates Skype insists taking up a taskbar slot for its main window (I set it to use the “Compact View”, but it applies to the default view as well). Since I don't need the main window most of the time since I have individual windows for the contacts I'm writing to this is (a) a taskbar button wasted if no other Skype windows are open and (b) still in the way when there are other windows open as it's a window I never need but still sometimes mis-click on when the thumbnails show up.
Is there a way to send Skype to the Notification area again?

Hey, I just had this same issue, but there was not compatibility mode when I right clicked skype in the task bar. I found that if you go into Tools options Advanced and uncheck the box that says 'keep skype in the taskbar while i'm signed in' fixed up the issue for me.

Right click on the Skype Shortcut, and choose the compatibility tab.
From there, set the compatibility mode to Windows Vista SP2.
That should allow Skype to minimize to the notification area.
